About Janis

Photography is my passion, but travel is also in my veins, I am endlessly inspired by nature and adventure. Knowing not everyone is able to see these sights in person, I take great pleasure in sharing my photos for all to see the world through my eyes. I spend a lot of my time exploring and photographing the amazingly beautiful scenery found right here on Vancouver Island which I am lucky enough to call home. I find incredible happiness and clarity while out in the natural world. In my work I try to convey the emotion that I feel and the sense of wonder I have when I see such beauty in nature.

Throughout my life I was the one who always had a camera to capture events, special occasions and travel moments. Over the years of taking photos, I learned that my favorite things to capture was the world around us, the landscape and the wildlife.

Years of learning and continually trying to better myself keep me focused on capturing the very best image I can. My eye is always searching for the next composition and photographic opportunity. When I am not out and about, I am usually planning the next adventure.

None of my wildlife photos are taken in a game reserve unless it is mentioned in the actual image - the animals are never baited. I feel very lucky to come across the wildlife we do in our travels, my eyes are always scanning the hillsides and forest as we explore. I take time to observe them and let them get used to my presence if possible, sometimes they don’t even see me with my long lens. Yes, I am one of those people who talk to the wildlife, and they seem to enjoy it.

My work incorporates digital editing techniques that enhance or add an artistic touch to a photograph, while always staying true to the essence of a scene. This means each image is entirely a representation of a real place that can be visited by those inspired to see it with their own eyes. My images are printed locally by a professional printer with the highest standards and products at the best resolution. Images shown on my website have been reduced for web display.

Prints are available to purchase as fine art or may be licensed for stock usage. My images are in several office environments locally and I hear over and over how calming and refreshing they are to both the employees and clients. If there is something special you have in mind that I do not have on my website, I will go seek it out and capture it for you.

I am also co-author of a BC Best Seller Southern Vancouver Island guide: The Pacific Marine Circle Route. It is available for purchase here on my site or in local island book and gift stores.

"There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but nature more,
From these our interviews, in which I steal
From all I may be, or have been before,
To mingle with the universe, and feel
What I can ne’er express, yet cannot all conceal.”

~ Lord Byron ~
